SELF PORTRAIT

Self-Portrait is an evolving music project by Ace The Storyteller that interrogates the social structures shaping selfhood and meaning. Through a radical critique of capitalism and colonialism, the project seeks to expose how systems of power distort even the pursuit of self-understanding and personal expression. 

The work asks: How does the practice of surrender and acceptance reorient the Self into a more natural and harmonious relationship with being? What did I seek to be but myself - and why?

Through a series of singles and essays, Ace traces the outlines of a Self on a path to understanding. Rhythm and poetry act here as the bell to awaken oneself from the idea that we are free because our feet are not bound together. We sought to lose our chains, but didn’t see they were linked in our minds. Only through the mind will the revolution begin, and thus - much work is to be done.
